Lab Operations Specialist (Mid-Level)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Lab Operations / EHS Specialist to support daily operations in a dynamic R&D environment. This role involves hands-on lab support, effective safety management, and close collaboration with scientific staff to ensure a safe, efficient, and well-maintained laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

Lab Operations

  • Manage daily inventory: monitor stock levels, receive deliveries, and place orders for lab consumables and supplies
  • Prepare buffers, reagents, and stock solutions to support laboratory workflows
  • Maintain adequate supply of gases and cryogens (e.g., CO₂, N₂, He, dry ice); place replenishment orders as needed
  • Clean, sterilize, and distribute lab glassware and reusable labware
  • Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and coordinate service or repairs when required
  • Partner with R&D staff to understand and anticipate operational needs

EHS

  • Collect and consolidate chemical and biological waste; coordinate regular and specialty pickups
  • Receive and safely manage deliveries of fine chemicals, reagents, and other hazardous materials
  • Conduct routine lab and waste storage area inspections for compliance with safety and regulatory standards
  • Maintain an up-to-date SDS database to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Manage chemical inventory, including registration of new reagents
  • Maintain and perform monthly tests on safety equipment (emergency showers, eyewash stations)
  • Support incident reporting and participate in accident investigations as needed
  • Perform additional duties as required to support lab operations

Qualifications & Experience

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on attention to detail and follow-through
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proven team-oriented mindset
  • Highly organized with effective time management and multitasking abilities
  • Experience with lab procurement systems and inventory management tools
  • Solid understanding of safe practices for handling hazardous chemicals, compressed gases, and lab equipment
  • Familiarity with EHS regulations and best practices; certifications such as RCRA, DOT, IATA, or OSHA HAZWOPER preferred
  • Computer proficiency for purchase order entry, shipping/receiving documentation, and lab asset management
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and remain on feet for extended periods
