Lead Field Service Technician - Electrical Power Systems

The Lead Field Service Technician takes charge of field operations, oversees electrical system maintenance, and ensures project success. This role requires technical expertise, leadership skills, and a hands-on approach to troubleshooting and servicing electrical systems.

Role Overview

The Lead Field Service Technician will be responsible for managing on-site activities, conducting preventative maintenance, troubleshooting electrical issues, and ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently. This position involves working directly with clients, supervising field teams, and maintaining high-quality standards in electrical system servicing. The job requires travel (approximately 25%) , with most assignments lasting between one to three weeks in various locations, particularly in the Reno, Nevada region.

Primary Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate on-site electrical maintenance and testing operations.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols, including daily job safety analyses (JSA), lockout/tagout procedures, and test sheet reviews .
• Assist with complex troubleshooting and diagnostics using electrical schematics and technical documentation.
• Train and mentor junior technicians, providing on-the-job guidance.
• Analyze project scopes, assign crews, and oversee job execution.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing updates and addressing any concerns.

Travel & Work Schedule

• Travel required up to 25% of the time , with a primary focus on projects in Reno, NV .
• Assignments typically last one to three weeks , with no more than four consecutive weeks at a travel site .
• This is not a standard 9-to-5 position; schedules vary based on project needs.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience in electrical systems, including 480V power, electrical distribution, power testing, or related fields .
• Hands-on expertise in at least one of the following:
  • Insulation resistance testing (Megger)
  • DLRO (Digital Low Resistance Ohmmeter) testing
  • Secondary and primary injection testing
  • Transformer diagnostics (TTR, Power Factor/Doble testing)
  • Hi-Pot testing on medium-voltage breakers and contactors
  • Cable testing and system analysis
• Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean record .
• Ability to pass background checks and routine drug screenings .
• Physically capable of lifting 50 lbs , carrying equipment, kneeling, climbing, and performing fieldwork for extended periods.
• Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Excel, Word, Adobe Reader, Dropbox, etc.).
• Familiarity with hand tools and electrical testing equipment .
• Previous leadership experience in a field-based role.

Preferred Qualifications

• Military background with electrical or mechanical expertise.
• Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering .
• Master Electrician's License.
• NETA or NICET Level 2+ Certification .
• Experience in any of the following roles:
  • Journeyman or Master Electrician
  • Generator Mechanic
  • Naval Nuclear Power Technician
  • Data center or manufacturing facility maintenance technician
  • Power generation plant technician
  • Army Prime Power School graduate
