About the Role:

The Primary Casualty Underwriter will be responsible for developing and maintaining a profitable portfolio by collaborating with wholesale agents, determining suitable pricing and coverage terms, and ensuring strict adherence to underwriting standards. This role requires over five years of commercial primary casualty underwriting experience, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to build and nurture client relationships while keeping abreast of industry trends.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain a profitable portfolio of primary casualty business.
• Collaborate with wholesale agents and brokers to secure quality submissions.
• Determine suitable pricing and coverage terms.
• Monitor performance of newly underwritten policies.
• Evaluate in-force business for renewals, pricing adjustments, non-renewals, or coverage changes.
• Achieve production, marketing, and profitability targets.
• Stay updated on industry, competitor, and claim trends impacting risk assessment.
• Conduct thorough risk evaluations, ensuring adherence to underwriting standards.
• Mentor and train junior underwriters.
• Participate in strategic planning and overall business development.
• Coordinate and prepare materials for client presentations and meetings.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company guidelines.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
• Assist in the development of underwriting policies and procedures.
• Provide technical support and guidance to the underwriting team.
• Analyze and report on underwriting performance metrics and trends.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years in commercial primary casualty underwriting.
• Comprehensive understanding of commercial casualty coverages.
• Proven ability to analyze data and make informed risk decisions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Capability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage tasks effectively.
• Demonstrated success in building and maintaining client relationships.
• Familiarity with industry trends and regulatory requirements.
• Proficient in underwriting software and tools.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
