Job Description

Our client, one of the largest medical device makers within the optical surgery space , is hiring a Laboratory Product Safety Engineer to join their team in South Orange County, CA!

**This is a W2 contract with benefits!**

As the Laboratory Product Safety Engineer , you will play a critical hands-on role in the company’s product safety lab, supporting the compliance testing and certification of cutting-edge medical devices used in optical surgery . You’ll work closely with R&D teams to ensure products meet global safety standards throughout the development lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform safety certification test assessments during all phases of product development
  • Conduct hands-on safety testing in company’s internal safety lab and coordinate with external certification labs
  • Prepare technical documentation such as isolation diagrams, dielectric/leakage current test data, and construction evaluations
  • Ensure compliance with IEC 60601-1 (3rd Ed ), ISO 14971, ISO 13485, and EMC test standards (IEC 60601-1-2)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, technicians , and external labs to support product compliance and timely project delivery
  • Plan and execute verification and validation (V&V) tests to de-risk product launches
  • Provide technical guidance on equipment calibration and production equivalency requirements

Desired Skills:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 4+ years of experience in medical device product safety compliance or accredited test labs (e.g., UL, CSA, Intertek, Element)
  • Deep knowledge of IEC 60601-1 (3.1 and 3.2), ISO 14971, and IEC 60601-1-2 standards
  • Strong hands-on lab experience with safety testing equipment and procedures
  • Excellent technical writing, documentation, and communication skills
  • Familiarity with global medical device certification processes and safety risk management practices
