POSITION SUMMARY:
With general supervision, assists veterinarians and researchers in diagnostic, surgical and preventative procedures, as well as radiology, animal care, and medical treatments. Observes animals in assigned areas and reports abnormalities, sickness, or injury. Assists with postoperative care and monitors the condition of assigned animals. Maintains required records including data collection and entry. Assists with inventory of medical, pharmacy and sterile supplies. Provides non-surgical technical assistance to researchers as directed. Assists with scheduling and study planning. Performs related responsibilities as required. May be required to be on after-hours call. Weekend and holiday work may be required.
May be designated as essential personnel during a storm/natural disaster. If required to work during a closure, employee must provide accurate and current contact information and is responsible for maintaining communication with TNPRC.
Failure to report to work when requested by supervisor or manager will result in disciplinary action as outlined by the Staff Handbook.

Employee attendance must meet established work schedules. Faithfulness in coming to work, being on time, planning absences in advance when possible, and calling in when unavoidably detained from reporting for work is an essential requirement of the job.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience as a veterinary technician OR
High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience as an Animal Care Technician and certification as an AALAS ALAT-OR High school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience as an Animal Care technician-OR Graduation from a two-year veterinary technician program-OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
